Clips for C9 Lights
Tuff Clips
Tuff clips are a favorite for professional installers who put up C9 roof Christmas lights. With their strong hold, Tuff clips allow you to point the bulbs out or up depending on clip orientation and whether on gutters or shingles. And maybe the best part about the Tuff Clip? It can cut install and removal time in half. Premium plastic and a rugged design makes the Tuff Clip the aptly-named solution for keeping Christmas lights up through rough winter weather.
All Application Clips
These clips are nice for a creating a bright multi-faceted facade of lights! The All Application clip can hold 2 different types of lights. C7 or C9 lights fit in the top spot, mini lights below, and icicle lights can hang from the bottom hook. The All Application Clip allows for creative combinations that lead to a knockout display. We love the C9-icicle light combo!
Canny Systems Pro Clip
This clip tightly encloses around the socket of the C7 or C9 to fully grip each bulb and socket. Lights sit straight in these clips for remarkably aligned bulbs, resulting in a professional-looking install.
Ridge Clips
If you’re going all out with your roof Christmas lights install and are going to cover the top of the roof, take it to the ridge with the Ridge Clip Pro! This clip hugs ridge capping where hipped edges meet, and holds a C9 bulbs right in the middle. Line the ridge capping with Ridge Clip Pro and C9 bulbs for a truly luminous display.

Icicle Lights
Icicle lights are a sublime sight as roof Christmas lights in a “winter wonderland”-themed display. You can choose static icicles for consistent light, or twinkle options for a shimmering effect that simulates the enchantment of snowfall on your roof. Place figures of winter wildlife such as reindeer, penguins, or polar bears on the lawn and you’ve got a whimsical winter wonderland!
The best clips for icicle lights are the ones that are exclusively designed to hold them: icicle light clips. These clips are so durable, you can keep them up year-round! But icicle light clips aren’t the only clips that can hold up icicle lights. The All Application Clip is another option if you’re planning to pair your icicle lights with another set of lights, such as C9s.
LED Snowfall Lights/Meteor Tube Lights
LED snowfall lights, or meteor tube lights, don’t just provide light—they also offer a spellbinding effect for onlookers to watch in awe. Tube lights have an appearance like cascading beads, with the light traveling down the tube in a way that’s satisfying to see. Tubes come in a few different sizes to cater to your creativity, at lengths of 12”, 24”, or 36” drops. You can achieve even more of an interesting aesthetic when you stagger sizes and colors along the roofline. Put meteor tube lights up in trees for an enchanting dripping icicle look across your entire yard or application area.
LED Snowfall lights install onto C9 empty socket line, and are held up with roof clips such as the All Application Clip or icicle clip, the latter of which allows the tube to slink downward and accentuate the drop effect.
Icicle Drop Tubes
Do you want roof Christmas lights that look as natural and wintry as they come? Look no further than icicle drop tubes. These lights make your roofline look as though magical icicles have formed to cast your home in the lovely shine of LED lights! Select from a nice variety of lengths including 5”, 7”, 9”, 12”, 18”, and 24”. Stagger sizes to create a custom and attractive display that demands a double-take.
Like LED snowfall lights, icicle drop tubes install onto C9 empty socket line, and they fit into All Application Clips or icicle clips as well.
Lights We Don’t Recommend For Roof Christmas Lights
Not all lights will put your home in its best light for the holidays. In fact, some lights can make your install look, well, unattractive. And even messy. The lights that we don’t recommend for roof Christmas lights are…
Mini Lights
Mini lights such T5s or M5s can look great on a Christmas tree or wrapped around outdoor greenery, but mini lights don’t quite fit for roof lighting. Their biggest shortcoming when on the roofline is that they’re not powerful enough to be seen well from the street. Their bulbs are not the right size for projecting the amount of light that makes a home look positively radiant from a street view.
Additionally, mini lights look messy compared to the steady application of C9 bulbs because mini lights don’t naturally hang straight—regardless of which type of clips you use or how many. While bulb alignment may not be a major factor on other lighting installs, it’s a detail that significantly impacts the appearance of roof Christmas lights.
The last reason why we don’t recommend mini lights for roof Christmas lights is because the install can fall apart over time. Mini lights aren’t held as tightly in light clips as C9s are, so mini lights can fall along the roofline throughout the season.
Incandescent Lights
Incandescent bulbs lack the brightness and color saturation that LED Christmas bulbs provide, and fortitude is especially important when you're lighting a roof. It's the farthest thing away when looking at a home from the street. After all the hard work that goes into lighting a roof, you want to stick with commercial quality LED bulbs for your project. If you work with incandescent roof lights, you'll be disappointed to see how the brightness lacks when comparing to the LED bulbs your neighbors used.
Christmas Lights We Love on Roof Lines
Keep your decorating fresh and interesting from year to year by adding a visual twist! Try out one or more ideas from these looks that we love in your roof Christmas lights.
Colorful Christmas Light Peaks on Roofs
Add a colorful bulb on each peak of the roof or similar color variations around the peaks to introduce focal points that bring more appeal to your display.
Christmas Colors in Doubles or Triples
Rather than alternating two colors one-by-one along the roofline, try double and triple bulbing each color in a row, such two warm white and two red continuously, or three blue and two pure white. It’s a simple change that can have a major effect on your display.
Classic Christmas Lights
Capture the iconic Christmas color scheme on your roof in a repeating red, green, and warm white sequence for an exciting scene. Combine these roof Christmas lights into your broader Christmas arrangement with solid color tree wraps or bush wraps in red, green, and warm white for an arrangement that looks like Christmas to its core.
Color Changing Lights, AKA Programmable Christmas Lights
RGB bulbs, such as C9 RGBW retrofit bulbs from Pro Christmas, will turn any roof into a mesmerizing Christmas spectacle. And the innovative tech doesn’t make these bulbs any less durable than every other Pro Christmas bulb, either: our RGBW retrofit bulbs have an IP67 rating and an average life of 60,000 hours. Change up the colors whenever you please with a controller, and you have a dynamic, dazzling display of roof Christmas lights for the holidays.
Creative Bulb Color Combinations
Explore completely different palettes for the holidays with unique multicolor combos that include yellow, purple, or teal. Sports team colorways can be reliable sources of inspiration!
The best roof Christmas lights for your home are the ones that wrap your house in a glow that you love. Stick with C9, icicle, snowfall, or icicle drop lights and your roof will beam with a brightness for all to enjoy. And consider a fresh addition here and there to create a captivating arrangement that guests can’t take their eyes off of.
